In the recent years, renewable energy sources such as solar energy solutions have gained prominence in the Sri Lankan economy, and Browns Engineering & Construction is poised to play a key role in enhancing our commitment in environmental stewardship to make the island greener and cleaner. We launched the first ever Utility Scale Solar Power plant in Sri Lanka in 2016 under Sagasolar Power (Private) Limited), in collaboration with Faber Capital Limited. The plant based in Baruthankanda, Hambantota has the capacity to produce 10 MW of power that will be supplied to the National Grid. The development of this landmark plant is in line with Sri Lanka’s National Energy policy. The 10 MW Solar plant, has been built on 45 acres of land within the Energy Development Area declared by Gazette notice 1720/5 on the 23rd of August 2011 under the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Act.

Surge protection and electrical earthing systems
We are experts in designing and developing complete systems to provide buildings and establishments against lightning strikes. Depending on the type of business and extent of damage, strikes can contribute to everything from power outages to fires, and can have an impact on normal business operations. Therefore, a surge protection system is a must for both commercial and residential establishments. In order to assure your safety, we offer three effective methods to avoid the damages caused by lightning strikes:
- Lightning rods – By mounting lightning rods on the exterior of buildings. These rods ‘attract’ the energy from the bolt and safely guide it to the ground where it is dispersed without causing physical damage or igniting fires.
- Lightning rods with taut wires – Wires will be stretched above the structure to be protected and this method is used to protect special structures such as rocket launching areas, military applications and protection of high-voltage overhead lines.
- Lightning conductors with meshed cadge – This protection method involves symmetrically placing numerous down conductors/tapes symmetrically all around the building, which is ideal for highly exposed buildings and very sensitive installations such as server rooms.
